Sidewalk sale

This Saturday after farmers market we are going to try a sidewalk sale at the store. It will be a fun experience. If you are in the area please stop by and say hello. We give free studio tours and tell you how pottery is made.

See you here!

New pottery style

Its once again time for me to change my style of pottery. Ive grown tired of my glazes and now want to expand into using glazes that will allow me to grab a hand full of glaze and throw it at the pot. Ive found that certain bottles or items that direct the glaze in a certain way make some amazing lines and splash patterns. It will take about two weeks to produce the new pottery by it should be fun. I will post pictures after the glazing starts.

New focus

I have decided that with my limited time that I can throw pottery my inventory suffers. So to fix this the store will now be a pottery and craft gallery. I am currently looking for people that make art related crafts that want to sell them. If you make soaps, candles, pictures, paintings, jewelry or anything you think I would like stop by the store and show me. Everything will be consignment until otherwise stated.

Our first class is complete!

My first 8 week class is complete. The students Tristan and Janette did a wonderful job! If memory serves the both were able to center and open over 3 pounds of clay. Janette even made a bowl 4 pounds.  Both exceeded my wildest expectations with throwing ability after only 8 weeks of classes. We glazed yesterday and the kiln is warming up for our final firing today.  Here is a look at some pieces right off the wheel.

Farmers Market

We are having great weather for the first month of the farmers market. Please stop by and support the local businesses.  We are going to try and be there as much as possible. The hours are 8am to 1pm Saturdays.  If you cant make it to the farmers market please stop by the store in Helena.

Jmacs pottery update

Wow its hard to believe summer is almost here.   The craft show went so well that we are going to attend the next one in the fall. This month flew by as you can see I did not even make a post for 3 weeks.   Farmers market is going to start in a week so we are expecting to be there on most Saturdays and at the store from 2-8 pm.   At the end of the month we will change to summer hours. We will be going into a 4 day week at Jmacs Pottery. I may have to adjust the hours more later.

Some of you who look at this site periodically may know my situation but I will go into a bit of detail explaining the change of hours.  I have been having increasing pain in my hips and anywhere connected which has been getting worse and worse. Sadly last week I found out that my hip replacements are the same type that is being recalled but a different brand.  Long story short, my left one may be failing and may need to be replaced soon.  So since I am the only one here I will be taking a bit more time off until everything gets figured out.  I will continue to make pottery as long as I can stand without a walker.

Looking for another item for the store.

If you are a local and make something unique, please send me a email and a picture of what you make. I am looking for a soapmaker or something with a fast return customer base to display in my store. Im looking to start small with consignment. Please let me know.

Artist Cheri Walsh

This post I thought I would highlight a fellow potter and friend Cheri Walsh. She has some work at the store and has been a inspiration to me throughout the past 5 years. Here is a picture of some of her work.

Well this post will be short and sweet. Today is the start of another week at Jmacs Pottery. I am getting ready to glaze some mugs and a lot of possibility pots for a order on Etsy. We will be at the Craft Show on 1035 Mill RD in Helena MT Saturday the 24th from 9 to 3pm. Come say hello.
